No One Subscribing to Ireland.com

I was interested to hear Geraldine Kennedy remark that Ireland.com only has between 8,000 and 10,000 paying subscribers and that it was "struggling to break even". I must say I was rather surprised that such a long-running service was attracting such few numbers.

I'm surprised that there are still that many folk paying for the service...

If you want news you can just checkout the google news page for free. The only reason to subscribe to a particular paper online (be it the Irish times or otherwise) is if you are writing an essay and think that quoting from a recognised paper adds some respectability. But as most Irish colleges have an IP range subscription to the IT this is rarely a problem
